Deep in the jungles of the exotic island of Tapio there is a legend about a dark goddess called Ta'at. The goddess of the Blood Lotus.

The Blood Lotus is an incredibly magical plant, capable of both healing and poisoning. Many people grow it on riverbanks where it is safe and useful for medicines. But when it gets into the heart of the jungle, in the little pools that animals drink from, it is dangerous for it contaminates the water...

The Tapi islanders say that Ta'at and the secretive god of the deep jungle are at war. She makes attempts to encroach on his territory and he retaliates by sending his defenders into the jungle to mercilessly destroy any blood lotuses they find. These men and women are tattooed with symbols of protection which are said to transmute themselves into tools they need - such as weapons.
